Unstick a Window

Double-hung windows are all too prone to sticking, but you can usually open them with muscle and common sense. Tools: stiff putty knife or paint scraper, hammer, chisel, 6-inch-long wood block, pry bar. Materials: medium-grit sandpaper, silicone spray lubricant. Time: ½ to 2 hours.

First check the window to make sure it’s unlocked. Assuming the catch is open, the most common problem is that the window was painted shut, and the paint is holding the sash shut. Use a stiff putty knife or paint scraper to cut the paint sealing the groove between the window sash-the sliding part and the frame.

Push the blade of the knife straight into the groove. If it won’t go in with mild pressure, tap it in lightly with a hammer to break the paint all around the sash. If this was the only problem, the window should open.

If the window still doesn’t open, the tracks the sash moves in may be blocked. Examine the tracks above the sash. If they’re clogged with paint or dirt, clean them carefully with a chisel; don’t dig into the wood, but remove lumps and bulges. Sand the inside of the tracks smooth with medium-grit sandpaper, then spray them with a silicone lubricant, and raise the window.

If the grooves are clean but the win¬dow still sticks, place a 6-inch-long wood block flat against the wood of the sash frame and tap it gently with a hammer to push the sash back from the window frame. Work all around the edges of the sash with the block and hammer, tapping very gently and evenly along the sash frame; then try to open the window. If it opens, clean, sand, and lubricate the tracks as above. If tapping on the sash doesn’t work, tap the block sideways into the window frame, to push it the other way. Try the window again, and clean and lubricate as above if it opens.

As a last resort, use a pry bar. Work from the outside of the window if you can. Slip the flat end of the pry bar into the crack between the bottom of the window sash and the windowsill. Set the block of wood on the windowsill under the bar to improve leverage and protect the sill. Pry gently at the corners of  the window, pushing the bar down to move the window up; pry first one corner, then the other, moving slowly back and forth toward the center of the sill.

Work carefully, and don’t force the window open. If it does open, clean, sand, and lubricate the tracks. If it doesn’t, repeat the wood block procedure from the outside. Clean and lubricate as above.

If cutting, pounding, and prying don’t work, leave the window alone. The problem may be caused by excessive swelling from humidity, by extreme misalignment of the sash, or by uneven settling of the house. Don’t make it worse; call a carpenter

350 Pound Woman

Imagine a 350 pound woman, who hasn`t? bathed in a week. Now imagine she has hairy arms and legs, and a little mustache to boot. She`s missing a few teeth and doesn`t wear make up. Are you attracted to her? Probably not. I sure as heck ain`t. Why not?

The answer is simple: as men, we`re attracted to a certain set of visual cues in women. While they vary slightly from guy to guy, when we see a stunning woman we can pretty much agree she?s stunning, and when we see one who was beaten about the head with the ugly stick, we pretty much agree about that, too.

Now, what would you think if the woman I just described said,  Looks shouldn`t matter to men they should like me for who I am.  You`d probably think she was off floating around Uranus, because there?s no man on earth who?s going to like her for? who she is?

The same thing happens with men all the time, but they never know it. I hear men say over and over, ?I don?t want to learn to be a`naughty boy,` I don`t want to change my personality, I think women should like me for who I am!?

This is the exact same thing to women as the attitude of the 350 lb woman is to men. See, attraction isn`t created in women by looks?it?s accomplished by being a self assured MAN with a wicked sense of humor who knows how to ? give her a good time in a bad way? define authority in the interaction, create sexual tension for her, then slowly  amp? that tension up, all the while being  predictably unpredictable.

A lot of guys don`t like to hear this. They want to be`nice guys,` kiss women`s butts, put them on a pedestal, buy them lots of gifts, and let the woman decide what direction the relationship is going to take. This is the male equivalent of being a 350 pound woman, because women HATE to be around guys like this. There?s no tension whatsoever. Women love tension, and make attraction decisions based on whether or not that delicious feeling is present, just like we make attraction decisions based on looks.

When I explain this to some guys they comment on, how sad? it is, or? how women are all messed up.? Oh please, this is like saying the law of gravity is soooo unfair. It?s not good, it`s not bad, it`s just what is. When you acknowledge in it, and revel in it that`s when you begin to get massive results. Relationships of all types are based on giving the other person what they want you make her feel attraction in the way she wants to, and she`ll dress sexy for you in front of your friends, fry your circuits in the bedroom, and go out of her way to make you feel like a man. But if you don`t give her what she wants, she`ll find a guy who will, and drop you like a hot potato.

So, next time you`re talking with a desirable woman, remember to create attraction for her by giving her what she wants not what you think she should want. Otherwise you`ll just be another 350 lb woman masquerading as a guy.

Aromatherapy Spotlight on Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

Ylang ylang, pronounced ee-lung ee-lung, is as exotic sounding as the tropical regions from where these fragrant flowers originate. The name means, ‘flower of flowers’ and the abundantly sweet flowers are prettily colored pink, mauve or yellow, colors frequently seen during sunrise and sunset. These trees flourish in the tropics; the islands of the South Pacific [Philippines, Guam, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Cook and the Marquesas]. Additionally, ylang ylang trees have been planted in Hawaii and New Caledonia. Near the coast of southeast Africa, some of the finest ylang ylang producing trees flourish in the Comoro Islands and Madagascar.

As this distinctively named flower hails from the warmer parts of the world, the [botanical name Cananga Odorata var. genuina] can also warm up your love life. Indonesian newlyweds discover their bed covered in the highly scented blossoms as according to ‘The Essential Oils Book’ by Colleen K. Dodt, ylang ylang: ”. is believed to be antidepressant, aphrodisiac, sedative, calming, euphoric’It has been found effective in reducing sexual difficulties resulting from anxiety, stress, and depression.’

Before you run out and purchase some ylang ylang, you should be aware of the fact that this is an aromatic plant that needs to be used sparingly. Too much ylang ylang and you’ll get a headache. The aroma is annoying to some, but to many it’s very soothing and calming.

Ylang ylang is reminiscent of another tropical floral star in aromatherapy, namely jasmine. It has been dubbed the ‘poor man’s jasmine’ as the lower grades of ylang ylang are priced in the single or double digits. The botanical name is derived from the Malaysian word, ‘kenanga’ which is the vernacular for the genus. ‘Odorata’ simply means fragrant.

Grades of Ylang Ylang: As with any essential oil, the higher the price the higher the quality. And Ylang ylang, unlike many other essential oils, has several different grades [or fractions] ranging from the costly Ylang Ylang Superior Extra down to the least expensive, Ylang Ylang III. Ylang Ylang Superior Extra ‘ This is an extraordinary form of ylang ylang which is considered by experts to represent the finest notes of this lovely floral. Found on Mayotte Island off the coast of Madagascar, this grade of oil is from certified organically grown flowers. Ylang Ylang Complete ‘ This grade is comprised of all fractions of the ylang ylang essential oil from the Extra to Grades I, II, and III. Ylang Ylang Extra ‘ The most floral smelling of the grades. This grade is recommended for perfumers as it is the most full-bodied and has spicy background notes. It is taken from the initial distillation where the petals are only distilled for one hour. Ylang Ylang I ‘ A very nice floral and the perfect introduction to this flower essential oil. This is the first distillation, obtained during the second to third hour of distillation. Ylang Ylang II – This is the second distillation, obtained during the third to fourth hour of distillation Ylang Ylang III ‘ Having been distilled for at least a day, the resulting grade of ylang ylang is the heaviest in scent. This grade is best used for aromatherapy beginners on a budget or to scent soap, candles and other bath and body products. Ylang Ylang CO2 ‘ Distilled by CO2 [carbon dioxide], when a certain amount of pressure is applied the gas changes to liquid; thus, this is one of the safest ways to extract oils. Most ylang ylang extracted in this manner is quite expensive. Ylang Ylang Absolute ‘ This method of extraction is done by alcohol washing of the concrete obtained from the ylang ylang petals. Done primarily in France from the Comoro Islands flowers, the pale yellow oil has a balsamic undertone. Absolutes are outstanding for perfumery due to their long-lasting aroma.

Benefits of Ylang Ylang: Ylang Ylang is a calming, soothing essential oil that helps alleviate stress. It also helps high blood pressure and decreases nervous tension. Is an excellent balancing oil for oily or dry skin. Ylang ylang has been reputed to stimulate hair growth and is a natural conditioner. Julia Lawless, author of ‘The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils,’ writes: ‘In the Victorian age, the oil was used in the hair treatment Macassar oil.’

Safety/Precautions: Aromatherapy author Colleen K. Dodt wrote: ‘My sister found ylang ylang helpful during her pregnancy when high blood pressure threatened. The scent calmed and relaxed her, which naturally lowered her blood pressure.’ As with any natural product, common sense is the first defense. If you or someone you know has a strong dislike for a certain scent, then don’t use it. If concerned about safety, always check with your healthcare practitioner.

Uses for Ylang Ylang: Bath soak ~ All you need is one or two drops in your bathtub of warm to hot water and you should find yourself relaxing. Candle ~ Add a few drops to a candle, next to the wick, not on it as essential oils are flammable. Ylang ylang will fill the room with its exotic floral aroma and relaxation should follow. Hair ~ Add one or two drops to your hairbrush and brush your hair. Not only will it smell great, doing this helps to condition it naturally. Also, Ylang ylang is believed to stimulate hair growth.

Blending with Ylang Ylang: Ylang Ylang can greatly enhance sandalwood, rosewood, or any citrus oil such as: grapefruit, bergamot, lemon, lime, orange, petitgrain, and other florals like lavender, jasmine, tuberose and rose. To offer a marvelous contrast, use black pepper, Peru balsam, patchouli or vetivert.

Ylang ylang is a fragrant year round reminder for those of us living in colder regions. Slip away on a tropical vacation as you inhale the heady floral bouquet. While not all of us can board a plane and benefit from a tropical vacation, for only a few dollars we can buy a ylang ylang scented product and transport ourselves there via the imagination.

Emu Oil For Anti Wrinkle

What is Emu Oil? Emu oil was discovered by Aborigines many thousands of years ago as a skin moisturizer, antiseptic, and as an aid in the relief of sunburn, muscular aches and joint pain, as well as aiding in the healing of injuries. The emu oil is rendered from a thick layer of fat on the back yielding 5 – 7 liters of unsaturated, non-toxic, highly penetrating oil. Over ten years of research done at Global Canyon Ranch (Texas) has revealed that the emu oil has unique thermodynamic properties. Combined with other ingredients, the oil can be used to machine stainless steel much more rapidly, thus considerable savings in labor results.

The emu oil is the greatest emollient in the world. It penetrates the skin better than mink or any other natural oil, and lacks long chain fatty acids which is conducive to a long shelf-life.

Emu Oil is considered a complete source of essential fatty acids. Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s) are fats that humans cannot manufacture or synthesize. We must obtain them from our diet. Like vitamins and minerals they are essential to the body’s functions. Incredibly, this amazing oil contains omega 3,6,9 essential fatty acids and is a powerful skin moisturizer and possesses strong anti-inflammatory properties.

Emu Oil for Anti Wrinkle.

Billions of Microscopic Three-Dimensional Nanoprisms! Here’s “so what.” Almost nobody knows this… but… the human eye cannot see a wrinkle. What the eye sees is actually the shadow made by the wrinkle. And, since all those billions of microscopic nanoprisms refract light.

This effect will last until you wash your face and the invisible silicon dioxide is removed. And get this: Remember how I told you the main ingredient in this cosmetic cream is made from emu oil? Well, it turns out emu oil is probably the best cosmetic ingredient in the world. That’s because its molecules are much smaller than the molecules in human skin.

Ideas for Adding some Variety to your Vegetarian Lifestyle

When you’re planning a healthy vegetarian diet, you’re only limited by your imagination. It’s important to incorporate a wide variety of whole grains, legumes, vegetables and fruits in different meals, including seeds and nuts. Variety is the spice of life, and it will help ensure your vegetarian diet is nutrient-dense, interesting, and fun! Aim for variety, even when you serve favorite entrees over and over again, by serving different side dishes, snacks and desserts.

Be creative in planning meals. Boost your consumption of beans and vegetables by eating these foods at lunch time rather than just for dinner. Make it a goal to serve a vegetable every day for lunch and two for dinner.  Plan a meal around a vegetable. A baked potato can be a hearty entree; serve it with baked beans, a sauce of stewed tomatoes or a few tablespoons of salsa. Or make a simple meal of sautéed vegetables and pasta.

Try new foods often. Experiment with a variety of grains such as quinoa, couscous, bulgur, barley, and wheat berries. Try fruits and vegetables that are popular in different international cuisines, such as bok choy.  Accentuate the positive. Focus more on healthy foods that fit into a vegetarian plan instead of foods to avoid. If you’re unsure how to include a new food into your vegetarian diet, ask the produce manager at your local grocer or health food store for ideas on how to prepare it. The internet can be a great resource for new recipe and preparation ideas.  But be sure that you’re building your menu on a strong plant food base.  Make them the core of your diet.

Don’t stress about getting enough protein. As long as calories are sufficient and the diet is varied, vegetarians easily meet protein needs. Grains, beans, vegetables, and nuts all provide protein. Vegetarians do not need to eat special combinations of foods to meet protein needs. However, it is important to be aware of fat. Even vegetarians can get too much fat if the diet contains large amounts of nuts, oils, processed foods, or sweets.
