Offline Methods For Building Your Handyman Business
There are a lot of different marketing methods that one can use but let’s discuss ways in which to market your handyman business using offline methods. Let’s first talk about some very specific offline strategies for building your client list or your prospect database. Let me take a quick step back and reiterate that you need to have some type of database that you’re storing all of your contacts in. Whether you are using Outlook or an Excel spreadsheet or if you’re using MAC it is Address Book or maybe Contacts it really doesn’t matter what you are using as long as it is a place where you can store your data which is your contact names, telephone numbers, addresses, and email addresses. A lot of the offline strategies are ways for you to go out there and build that internal list, that client database.
There are three ways right off the bat to do this, and number one would be to join your Chamber of Commerce. You’ve got to be out there meeting people, and one great way for business owners to meet people that might need something done is through their local Chamber of Commerce. Go there and start meeting people and networking!
The next way would be to use a website called meetup.com. This is a site where you can just take your hobbies and your passions, or maybe you want to go there and attend a real estate investor group meeting or a real estate agent group meeting, or perhaps find a group where they are talking about owning a home or things that would be related to the particular job you are wanting to do. Go to that site and those groups and participate in those discussions, develop good relationships with those people, let them learn to know, like and trust you and give them your business card and many times they will give you one back, which is really what you are wanting, anyway, and then add them to your database. Nurturing that database is key so at least once a month you should send out some sort of newsletter, or flyer, or promotional material — anything that will remind them of who you are and what you do.
The third one that I want to talk about would be volunteering your time because by volunteering your time you are going to get to meet like minded individuals and more often than not those are the people who are going to hire you.
All three are the cheapest marketing you will ever do. I know some of you are thinking that you don’t want to spend that .50 cent or .60 cent per mailing each month but when you look at it logically, if you get even one small couple hundred dollar job out of doing those mailings each month, then you have already paid for the mailing and most times you are more than profiting from doing them.
